A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Ethics Advance Technology Limited (EATL) and Multimedia Content and Communication (MCC) to promote mobile application aiming at earning huge foreign currency.
The MoU was signed at a function in the auditorium of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), reports BSS. ICT Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Managing Director of EATL Mubin Khan and Managing Director of MCC SM Ashraf Abir signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Quoting a recently revealed statistic, N I Khan said nearly 1.2 billion people of the world are using mobile apps and the number is soaring at a rate of 29.8% every year.
Bangladesh cannot sit idle at a time when the number of internet users in the country is 25 million and 30% of the 100 million mobile phone users own smart phone who use apps purchasing from stores, he said and added millions of IT literate people are available in the country with the advancement of ICT.
He, however, said the developing countries, such as Bangladesh need to design mobile applications for its own context and in its own language.
Ashraf Abir said the size of mobile apps global market will stand at nearly $45 billion and the country has immense potential for earning foreign currency from the global market.
We have to take massive initiatives to build mobile apps developers to earn money from both local and international markets, he added.
The ICT ministry sources said the government has moved to collect ideas on various public services from its directorates and departments for developing mobile applications to reach service at hand.
